The Black Editorial is dedicated to amplifying the voices of diverse creatives across the art, fashion, and cultural industries. Through independent editorial publications, we bring together distinct creative perspectives, visual narratives, and conversations that contribute to contemporary culture.

Issue 011 — Eye of the Beholder considers photography as an act of intention shaped not only by what is seen, but by the perspective, experience, and decisions of the person behind the lens.

Bringing together six distinct photographic practices, this issue examines the ways personal history, creative freedom, visual discipline, and human connection inform the making of an image. Each photographer approaches the frame from a different position, revealing the individual ways in which a visual language is developed, challenged, and understood.

This issue looks beyond the finished photograph to consider the conditions of its making. From the responsibility of representing another person to the freedom of constructing imagined realities, it explores the relationship between observation and interpretation, direction and spontaneity, intention and restraint.
